Soft Gel Press Ons really can be worn more than once — as long as you keep a few things in mind. The most important requirement: apply them with adhesive tabs instead of nail glue. And when it comes to removal, patience matters more than force. Here’s exactly how it works, step by step.
How many times can you reuse Press Ons?
Soft Gel Press Ons can be reused 3 to 5 times with proper care — sometimes even more. The key factor is what you used to apply them:
With adhesive tabs, you can wear Press Ons multiple times without any problem. The tabs last 5–7 days and leave hardly any residue on the nail. After removing, cleaning, and drying them, you can simply reapply the same Press Ons.
With nail glue, reusing them is also possible, but it takes more effort and we don’t really recommend it. That’s because the glue bonds more firmly to the underside of the Press On, which makes residue harder to remove. If you already know you want to wear your nails more than once, adhesive tabs are the better choice.
Step 1: Remove Press Ons gently
The most important step for reusing them is removal. If you simply pull the nails off, they may break — and that’s the end of using them again. Here’s the right way to do it:
- Apply Removal Oil — Add a few drops directly around the edges of the nails and let it sit briefly.
- Prepare a hand soak — Fill a bowl with warm water and add a little Removal Oil and hand soap.
- Soak your nails — Leave your hands in the soak for about 10 minutes. This gently loosens the glue or tabs.
- Loosen — Use an orangewood stick to gently work at the edge of the Press On and slowly lift it from the base of the nail.
- Lift off — Lift the nail evenly and avoid any jerky movements.
If the nail is still resisting, put it back in the soak — don’t force it.
Step 2: Clean Press Ons properly
After removal, the Press Ons often still have the adhesive tab attached underneath. Luckily, it’s easy to remove:
- Take an orangewood stick or a toothpick, place it in the middle of the adhesive tab, and roll it up gently — the tab should come off in one piece.
- Then you can quickly clean and disinfect the Press Ons with a disinfectant spray.
- Gently remove glue residue from your natural nail with the 2in1 Feile & Buffer.
And if you don’t want to wear a new set of Press Ons right away, it’s worth massaging in a few drops of nail oil afterward — it helps care for the cuticles after the soak.
Step 3: Store Press Ons properly
How you store your Press Ons also affects how good they’ll look and how well they’ll stick next time.
The best option is to store them in the original packaging — that’s what it’s made for. Alternatively, any small box with a lid will do, as long as it stays dry. Avoid direct sunlight, because UV light can change the material over time. Don’t toss them in randomly — put them back neatly and sorted by size.
Can you reuse Press Ons that were applied with nail glue?
Yes — but we don’t recommend it because it takes more effort. Press Ons that were applied with nail glue can usually still be worn again after removal. The difference is that the glue residue underneath is more stubborn and needs to be buffed away more carefully.
If you notice the material becoming thinner or rougher in the process, it’s better not to use that nail again. A slight rough texture or splitting on the underside is usually the sign to watch for.
For anyone who wants to reuse their Press Ons regularly, adhesive tabs are the more stress-free option. They hold well, come off with minimal residue, and are gentler on the material.
These mistakes can ruin reusability
A few things can ruin your Press Ons before you even get to wear them a second time:
- Pulling them off dry without soaking: this tears the material, leaves cracks, and can also damage your natural nail.
- Buffing too aggressively: the buffer is the right tool here — not the rough side of the file.
- Storing them while damp: moisture can cause warping and prevents new adhesive tabs from sticking properly.
- Reusing adhesive tabs: adhesive tabs are single-use items — you’ll need new ones for the next wear cycle.
