Question 1

How are the gel strips applied?

Accepted Answer

Important in advance: Perform the application away from sunlight, as the natural UV light can allow the gel strips to harden prematurely. We recommend covering the gel strips with the protective cover between each application step in order to protect them from natural UV light. File the natural nail into the desired shape. Gently push back cuticles with the enclosed rosewood stick. Roughen the nail surface with the buffer, removing the thin cuticle layer at the base of the nail plate. The preparation of the natural nail is crucial for a long-lasting and beautiful result. Thoroughly clean nails with the enclosed cleaning cloth. Hold the gel strips over the nail and select the appropriate size. If there are uncertainties in the size selection, it is better to choose a smaller size so as not to stick the gel strip on the cuticle or over the edge of the nail. This can cause the gel strip to peel off and affect its durability. Tip: In the case of short natural nails, the gel strip can be divided in the middle, so the gel strip is sufficient for a second application. Peel off the protective film from the gel strip. Stick the gel strip onto the nail. Here it is important not to stick it to the cuticle or beyond the edge of the nail. Carefully spread the gel strip from the middle outwards. Gently press the edges with the rosewood stick. Cut off the protruding gel strip at some distance from the nail tip and fold it under the nail tip so that it is well enclosed.

Question 2

How do I remove the gel strips?

Accepted Answer

Apply Doonails remover oil to the nail edges and massage in well. Use the enclosed rosewood stick to loosen the gel strips at the edges. Pour warm water, 1-2 pipettes of remover oil and 2 pumps of soap into a bowl. Soak the nails for 10 minutes. In the meantime, keep stroking under the gel strips with the rosewood stick. Carefully lift and remove the gel strips with the rosewood stick. If necessary, soak again in the oil bath for a few minutes. Gently remove the adhesive residue with the buffer. Tip: Soak a cotton wool ball in Doonails remover liquid and remove adhesive residue effortlessly. Care for natural nails and cuticles with Doonails nail oil.

Question 5

Which removal methods are available?

Accepted Answer

You can find the right removal method for you here: Our remover bowl is based on the "bag method" inspired by our community. This involves heating cotton wools soaked in remover with hot water and rubbing the nails regularly for around 10 minutes. This melts away the dipping manicure (and fake tips) in just a few minutes. The cotton pad of the remover foils is soaked with the Doonails Remover and placed on the nail. After 10-20 minutes, the layers dissolve and can be gently removed with the manicure stick and any residue filed off with a buffer. The dipping layers can be milled off easily and conveniently with our nail drill Pro.

Question 7

How do I attach the Press Ons?

Accepted Answer

You can attach your press ons either with the adhesive stickers provided or with nail glue. Please note the following steps: File natural nails, gently push back cuticles, remove invisible cuticles at the base of the nail and roughen the nail surface. Clean nails thoroughly with the cleaning cloth. Choose the right size of press-ons. TIP : You should usually have the same size on both hands for each nail. Press-ons that are too large can simply be trimmed at the edges. Stick the adhesive sticker onto the nail with a protective film and press on firmly. Remove air bubbles from the edges with the rosewood stick and peel off the protective film. Position the press-ons at a 45-degree angle at the base of the nail and slowly lower them with a little pressure. Press on well for approx. 60 seconds. Apply nail glue generously to the adhesive side of the press on nail. If necessary, apply a thin coat of nail glue to the natural nail. Position the press ons at a 45-degree angle at the base of the nail and slowly lower them with a little pressure. Press on well for approx. 60 seconds. IMPORTANT: Do not file the tip, otherwise the sealant of the top coat may come loose/peel off. It is best to cut press ons down to a smaller size on the sides only.

Question 20

My top coat brush is hardening. What can I do about this?

Accepted Answer

The top coat brush can harden if it comes into contact with the Activator. Always observe the drying times of 2 minutes between Activator and Top Coat. Before you apply the top coat, you can dab the surface dry again with a piece of paper towel. If your brush is already hard, you can simply swap it for the Brush Saver and leave it to work overnight. The brush will be as good as new the next day. Before you swap the brushes, please make sure to dry both well so that the two liquids do not mix.

Question 21

How do I remove press-on nails that were applied with liquid nail glue?

Accepted Answer

To safely remove your Soft Gel Press Ons applied with liquid nail glue, you can use our gentle oil bath method: 1. Prepare the edges: Apply Doonails remover oil to the edges of your nails and massage it in well to help loosen the glue. 2. Prepare the soak: Fill a bowl with warm water, 1–2 pipettes of nail oil, 2 pumps of your preferred soap, and add about 10 ml of Doonails remover liquid. The remover is essential for dissolving the stubborn nail glue. 3. Soak and loosen: Soak your nails for about 10 minutes. While soaking, use an orange stick to gently lift and loosen the Press Ons from the edges. 4. Repeat if necessary: If they don't come off immediately, soak for a few more minutes and continue gently lifting with the orange stick. 5. Clean up: If any glue residue remains on your natural nails, gently buff it off. Afterward, nourish your nails with more nail oil. If you have questions regarding the removal of other products like Dipping Powder or Gel Strips, feel free to ask!

Question 22

Will using acetone to remove the nails damage them and prevent reuse?

Accepted Answer

Whether using acetone will prevent you from reusing your Soft Gel Press Ons depends largely on the initial application method and the amount of residue left behind: Application with Adhesive Stickers: If you used adhesive stickers, it is best to avoid heavy acetone exposure. Acetone can damage the appearance and structural integrity of the Press Ons. For reusability, we recommend using the oil bath removal method (warm water, soap, and remover oil) to gently lift them. Once removed, you must thoroughly clean all adhesive residue from the underside to ensure they are ready for the next application. Application with Nail Glue: If you applied your Press Ons with nail glue, they are generally considered single-use. Because nail glue is much stronger, you typically need to use Doonails remover liquid to dissolve it. This process often changes the appearance of the Press Ons and makes it very difficult to remove the glue residue without damaging the nail, preventing them from being reused. Important Note: Always use cosmetic-grade acetone if you are performing a removal that requires it (such as with Dipping Powder). Never use non-cosmetic acetone, as it is not suitable for contact with skin or nails. If you are curious about the differences in care or removal for other products, let me know!

Question 23

How can I prevent my press-on nails from lifting when exposed to water?

Accepted Answer

To prevent your Soft Gel Press Ons from lifting when exposed to water, consider these tips: Switch to Nail Glue: If you currently use adhesive stickers, switch to nail glue for a much stronger, more water-resistant bond. Adhesive stickers are ideal for short-term wear, but glue is superior for durability against frequent hand washing or water exposure. The 1-Hour Rule: Avoid contact with water for at least 1 hour before and 1 hour after application. This allows the adhesive to fully build its bond to your natural nail. Proper Preparation: Ensure your nail surface is clean, dry, and lightly buffed before application. Use the prep wipe to remove any natural oils. Do not wash your hands or apply lotion/oil for at least 30 minutes prior to applying, as moisture or residue will prevent a proper seal. Application Pressure: After applying the Press On, press it down firmly for at least 10–30 seconds. Strong, consistent pressure is key to a secure fit that resists lifting. Check Your Sizing: Ensure the Press On does not overlap your cuticles. There should be a 1–2 mm gap between the cuticle and the nail base. An overlapping nail will lift much faster when it catches on water or everyday objects. Aftercare: If you have been in salt water or chlorinated water (like in a pool or the sea), dry your nails well afterwards. Prolonged exposure to these types of water can weaken the adhesive over time.

Question 24

Are some press-on nail designs harder or more flexible than others?

Accepted Answer

Yes, there are differences in thickness and structure between the various Soft Gel Press Ons designs. These variations are intentional to ensure the best balance between a natural look and daily durability: Length-based thickness: Longer nail shapes are generally slightly thicker. This extra material provides the necessary stability so the tips don’t bend or break under the pressure of daily tasks like typing or gripping. Shorter shapes: Shorter styles (like Extra Short Square) are designed to be thinner. Since they sit closer to your natural nail and are exposed to less leverage, they don't require the same level of reinforcement as longer shapes. - Material properties: Our Soft Gel Press Ons are designed to be stable while worn to prevent breaking. While they are flexible enough to adapt to your natural nail during application, they are not intended to be "soft" or highly flexible once applied, as this would compromise their durability. It is important to select the correct size and shape for your natural nail plate to ensure the best fit. If you are ever unsure about which shape might suit your needs best, you can check the "Shapes & Lengths" section on each product page for detailed specifications.

Question 25

How do I properly peel the backing off the adhesive tabs?

Accepted Answer

To remove the protective film from the adhesive tabs, follow these steps: 1. Apply the tab: After prepping your nail, place the correct size adhesive tab onto your natural nail. 2. Smooth it out: Use a wooden cuticle stick to smooth out any air bubbles, ensuring the tab is firmly attached. 3. Peel the film: Once the tab is smooth and secure on your nail, gently peel off the protective plastic film from the top of the adhesive tab. 4. Apply the Press On: Position your Soft Gel Press On nail at a 45-degree angle at the base of the nail, then slowly lower it and press down firmly for 10–30 seconds to ensure a secure bond. If the adhesive sticker is slightly too large for your natural nail, you can trim it to size with scissors before removing the protective film.

Question 26

How do I know which end of the press-on nail goes towards the cuticle?

Accepted Answer

To identify the correct orientation of your Soft Gel Press Ons, look at the shape of the base of the nail. The end that is designed to sit against your cuticle is typically flatter and thinner to ensure a seamless transition and a more natural, comfortable fit against your nail bed. Before applying any glue or adhesive stickers, it is helpful to perform a "dry fit" by placing each nail over your natural finger to confirm that the curve matches and that the cuticle end aligns properly with your own cuticle line. If you are ever unsure, remember these tips: Check the numbers: Some Press Ons have a small number on the underside near the tip, which can help you identify which size you are using, though the cuticle end is generally identifiable by its flatter profile compared to the more curved or tapered free edge. Test the fit: Always place the nails on your natural nails before applying them to find the perfect match. This saves time and helps you visualize the correct orientation before the adhesive is involved. - Avoid filing the cuticle end: While you can gently file the sides for a better fit, avoid altering the shape of the cuticle end excessively, as it is pre-shaped to sit flush against your skin.

Question 27

Do you offer press-on nail sizes that fit larger or wider nail beds?

Accepted Answer

We do not offer separate products specifically for wider nail beds, but our Soft Gel Press Ons sets are designed to accommodate a wide variety of nail shapes and sizes. Each set includes 30 nails across 15 different sizes (0–14). If you find that a nail is too wide or too narrow, you can use these methods to get a better fit: Try adjacent sizes: Each size is included twice in every set, so you can test the size just above or below to see if it provides a better fit. Adjust by filing: If a nail is slightly too wide, you can gently file the sides of the Press On to narrow it down to your natural nail width. - Choose the right shape: If you have very small or wide natural nails, choosing shorter shapes like "Short Square," "Short Round," or "Extra Short Square" often provides a more stable base and a better fit than longer or more curved shapes. Please note that we do not sell individual replacement nails or size-specific kits. For our other products, like Gel Strips or UV Strips, sizing also follows a standardized range designed to fit a broad spectrum of nail widths. If you have questions about how these specific strips are sized compared to Press Ons, let me know!

Question 28

Do Doonails kits include all necessary application and removal items?

Accepted Answer

The contents of Doonails kits vary depending on the product type. Here's a breakdown for application and removal items: Dipping Powder: A Dipping Powder starter kit usually includes the necessary powders and liquids for application. However, for removal, specialized products like the Remover Basics Set (containing remover liquid with almond oil and a remover bowl) or remover foils with Doonails Remover are recommended and sold separately. Gel Strips: A basic Gel Strip box contains the gel strips, a rosewood stick, and two cleansing cloths. For optimal application, a UV lamp, Doonails scissors, and a 2in1 file & buffer are absolutely necessary and are not included in the Gel Strip box. For removal, Doonails Remover Oil is recommended along with a rosewood stick and warm water. - Press Ons: A Press On Nails set includes 30 nails in 15 different sizes. While the nails themselves are provided, application usually requires adhesive stickers or nail glue, which are often purchased separately. For removal, Doonails Remover Oil is essential, along with warm water, soap, and an orange stick to gently lift them off. If you're interested in UV Strips, let me know, and I can provide more specific information.

Question 29

Do Doonails cause damage or peeling to natural nails?

Accepted Answer

Doonails products are generally designed with natural nail health in mind, but the key to avoiding damage or peeling lies in proper application, careful removal, and consistent aftercare. Here's what's important for different Doonails products: General Considerations: After removing any long-lasting manicure, your nails might temporarily feel softer, or you might notice some peeling or brittleness. This is often temporary and can depend on your individual nail structure. Regular breaks from manicures are important, and dry nails especially need extra care and moisture. We recommend using high-quality care products like our nail oil or nail serum during these breaks. External factors like frequent handwashing, not wearing gloves for dishes, using nails as tools, over-buffing, or contact with chemicals can also lead to dry or flaky nails. It's important to be gentle during removal and avoid tearing off layers forcibly or excessive sanding of your natural nail plate. Dipping Powder: Dipping Powder can actually give your nails stability, helping them grow without breaking easily. When it comes to removal, our remover combi and special Doonails acetone are designed to be simple, fast, and gentle on the nail, and the acetone does not dry out your nails. Gel Strips: Our Gel Strips are formulated without HEMA or DI-HEMA, making them suitable for those with related allergies. For removal, the oil bath method is re...

Question 30

Why are my Doonails chipping or losing color/design at the tips?

Accepted Answer

It can be really frustrating when your Doonails manicure starts to chip or lose color at the tips! This can happen for a few reasons, depending on whether you're using Press Ons or Dipping Powder. Here's why it might be happening and what you can do: For both Press Ons and Dipping Powder: Improper Nail Preparation: Make sure your natural nails are perfectly prepared. This includes pushing back cuticles, lightly buffing the nail surface, and cleaning them with the included wipe. Avoid using hand cream or nail oil about 30 minutes before application, as this can affect adhesion. Water Exposure: Try to avoid contact with water during the first hour after application. Moist nails can expand, which makes it harder for the glue or layers to adhere effectively. Mechanical Stress: If your hands are often exposed to heavy mechanical strain (like cleaning, gardening, or sports), we recommend wearing gloves to protect your nails. Specific to Press Ons: Top Coat Peeling: If the Top Coat on your Press Ons is peeling or losing design, it might be because you frequently bump your nails or if you filed the tip too much during application. This can loosen the sealing layer and cause the Top Coat to lift. Incorrect Sizing: If a Press On nail is too large and extends beyond your natural nail edge, it can be more prone to breaking or chipping at the tip. Choose a slightly smaller size and file the sides to get a perfect fit. Application Pressure: Ensure you press the Pr...
